Patriotic coin purse! (competition entry)

The past few months have been quite hard, you know, between changing diapers and brestfeeding and the work there's not really much time left for the hobbies. A while ago a Czech bead supply shop koralky.cz came up with a competition for the 95th anniversary of our country - create a piece in the national colors and use the Czech Preciosa beads. That was a challenge I couldn't miss. I like beading with Preciosa, you might say that there seed beads aren't as regular and neat looking and Toho or Miyuki but when you get into it and start working with them, you'll see why so many (especially Czech) beaders like about them. They have their charm, they come in a huge variety of sizes and colors and for us Czech beaders it is of course a question of national pride as well :)
It didn't take me that long to figure out what I'd create for this competition - I wanted something practical, something one can use in the everyday life and since I'm crazy about coin purses, I decided to make yet another one.

I decided to go for the Czech flag:
source: cs.wikipedia.org

First I embroidered two circles on ultra suede and lined them with a second layer of ultra suede to cover the backside of the embroidery and to make the sides of the purse stronger. Then I attached the zipper and made another piece which was supposed to join the two circles and make the purse a little wider, it was a 13 cm long and stripe. I assembled the whole thing and didn't like it as much as I expected and so I decided not to use the last piece and just sew the circles together. A few more adjustments later it all turned out fine and the purse is wide enough.

The other side of this purse is a horizontally reversed flag, so the blue part is on the right. The dimensions are about 7,5 cm x 7,5 cm and it is just the perfect size to fit in your hand and to carry enough change.
Whether or not I win the competition I definitely enjoyed making the purse and  at the moment I'm trying to decide if to keep it for myself (I just  love it too much) or to offer it for sale...

You can see the album with all the entries and vote on the Facebook page of the eshop.
